Local Walks

The village of Muirkirk is full of fascinating historical walks itself. The walker's Car Park begins these routes

• Cairn Table is the highest hill on Muirkirk's skyline. It is a popular climb with well trodden paths to the summit where a large carin made of stone sits. The Walk talkes 2-2.5 hours and is suitable for all abilities.

• Tibbies Brig is a famous bridge surrounded by beautiful trees and scenery in the heart of Muirkirk. The bridge is in memory of the Scottish Poet Isabel Pagan who lived and died there. This is a short 20 min walk and is easily accessed.

• Sanquhar Brig is found on the route to Sanquhar from Muirkirk and is a pleasant walk through the countryside. Approx 5km walk there and back.

• Glenbuck is a historic village neighbouring Muirkirk. It marks the beginning of the River Ayr Source to End walk. Glenbuck is also the birthplace of Bill Shankly the Liverpool Football Player - there is a Heritage Village in his memory with several walking paths.
